"This does not seem quite right," was what I said when I watched a patron sail through the large windows looking out onto the sidewalk and let the evening breeze to cool the debris bag one day sultry summer.
The biped old friend, now transformed into a flying mammal, landed on the seat of a bicycle parked on the pavement patches. He was considered problematic for a young college athlete who was elected to the Force. They exchanged words, gestures, swollen breasts, but nothing came of it other than bruised egos.
Whiskey Richards, with their lack of chairs and tables, punching bag as unique arcade game room, complete with dirty men toilet shattered not work, is where this bar room brawl took place, and it's like a hole in the wall as a company could be. It really seems at home in the tony ocean side community of Santa Barbara, California.

"All CVO models are the jump-up Screamin 'Eagle Twin Cam 110, the largest engine Harley offers ..."
In the game, one of which is not that they have played continuously in my head, the first machines that brought me to Santa Barbara in 2009, Harley-Davidson CVO models, much better in this city that whiskey Richards.
For the uninitiated, CVO stands for Custom Vehicle Operations and is home to the Harley custom line. An existing model in the standard Harley line-up, every bike is a rolling sample of the thousands of accessories available on the legendary Harley-Davidson parts and accessories catalog. Bicycles have criminal records of chrome bits and custom accessories too long to list. Each bike has three color schemes available that are exclusive to the CVO line.
All CVO models are the jump-up Screamin 'Eagle Twin Cam 110, the largest engine Harley offers, but the six-speed Cruise Drive tranny.
"CVO allows us to execute our premium vision of our design team," said Steve Earnshaw, director of Marketing for parts and accessories for Harley. He will explain what CWD "on the introduction of a style, performance and features of our consumers." Then there is the feeling of "exclusivity and scarcity" Harley hopes to build into CVO machines and not the construction of many of them. Annual production figures for each model has a total worldwide, not only for the U.S.
Another thing that was said during the day, one of those things that I sit and reflect reported that CVO owners feel these bikes "a great value to offer," and probably put in more miles in one year most standard Harley riders do. That's just not something I would have expected from someone on a bicycle with a starting price of over $ 25,000. How presumptuous of me.
The Softail Springer and Ultra Classic Electra Glide return from last year as CVO models, while new for this year, the CVO Fat Bob (a new bike last year to the standard line of HD) and the venerable Road Glide.
2009 CVO Softail Springer
Limited production of 2,500 units, $ 26,999 ($ 27,099 in CA)
The CVO Softail Springer Springer 2008 broke with tradition last year when he came with a 130 mm wide front wheel 18. "The larger front tire was a good improvement, because it softens the ride and helped eliminate trend of narrow tires for cracks or areas of the rain. This year, the CVO chubby back with the addition of a 240 mm rear tire accented with new rear fender vents .
Other functional changes include a new framework, complemented by the suspension, ie, although specific for Springer, in line like the Rocker and other Softail models. More updates include a new single with four-piston calipers for the old single-piston brake still trying to replace Crossbones.
The saddle on this beauty is cut with a nice break in the background of the pilot, a minimum rear and the central square is a good support for the lower back of the pilot. A nice touch in the chair is called accent stitching on the leather insert Buffalo.
A new 1.25-inch handlebar in the form of a tendency to easily ErgoS touts is in the wiring to clean it as each of these CVOs to fight to maintain.
Although Springer is powered by a 110-inch Screamin 'Eagle engine CVOs other hand, this bike is solid-mounted, but, so keeping the B in the 110B. The other three bikes in the CVO line have rubber-mounted plants. The engine exhibits muscle car Springer appeals to the intake on the front decorated with heavy breathing showed a special "SE 110" tube emblem and chrome cap. Peer claimed that V is a devastating 110 pounds-feet at 3,000 rpm.
Once aboard this premium Harley rider has the perception that this bike a lot of customizing a motorcycle manufacturing company in such a large scale. The premium, detailed hand-painting, acres of chrome, leather seat quality, and lots of little details that say that it was built with love.
"The bike ride begins and leads easily with little effort."
The bike fires instantly, EFI port range is smooth and throttle response is very good. Hit the throttle, dump the clutch and there is no doubt the performance increase of 110 indicates when the lights of the big rear tires without effort. Transmission is the classic Harley, with a strong ka thunk at low revs but rowing through the gearbox is very simple and can be less clutch. Vibrations are well kept in check by a solid-mounted engine.
The size of the bars is human and the seat is comfortable, but it was slightly less enthusiastic about the abundance of chrome forward controls you'll ever be smooth. The driving position is just a challenge to open on the highway, where wind blast is formidable. However, while the cut embraced in that chair, so that part of the effort to hang is relieved.
Bicycles with fat tires as I usually have a bike that anticipation is reluctant point on a curve and a tough line to maintain, but rather right itself. Score one for the H-D engineers. The tour begins and leads easily with little effort. Ride quality is very good except for the damping of the sharpest bumps or imperfections ground clearance is better than one might expect, pegs scraping only at extreme angles - or as extreme as can be on a cruise.
About the only fly in the ointment is the new custom four-piston brake. It can produce enough braking power, but it was too hard to tell because it lacked almost all feel. There was little or no travel in the first pull the lever. I'd rather sacrifice a little more energy to get to feel. Frankly, I think the single-piston caliper this new four-pot job replaces a unit.
This bike is not my first choice as a favorite, but the best work of illustration of the word "Custom" in Custom Vehicle Operations.
The CVO Softail Springer 2009 is available in Black Diamond with Emerald Ice Flames, Candy Cobalt with Blue Steel Flames, and Sunrise Yellow Pearl with Volcanic Fury Flames.
2009 CVO Fat Bob
Limited production of 2,450 units, $ 25,299 ($ 25,499 in CA)
The Fat Bob was introduced last year as a new addition to the Dyna line. This year Bob gussied as one of the two new civilian volunteers.
There was no major structural changes occurred in the Fat Bob, but the suspension is 0.75 inches lower than the OE model to "hit that" look and tweaked and tuned for driving forgiveness without sacrificing the excellent driving performance my Harley when he caught the sport last year.
The chair retains a form similar to that of the standard Fat Bob, but it has a fine detail work. CVO designers wanted the chair before his eyes, but they know very well how to bad weather. Outer material is called Alcantara seat, named after the Italian company, Alcantara SpA, which produces the faux suede finish. The finishing touch is a distinctive flavor Harley-Davidson plunged into the deep chair.
Together with the two parallel streetfighter style headlights retained from the standard Fat Bob is the trick "Tommy Gun" exhaust system. The only difference this year is that the two over / under mufflers end in a "blunt cut" style instead of the diagonal cut style of the bike as standard.
"Not a tourist model, it is a comfortable cruising."
The biggest hit of this bike design is something that CVO Manager, Jeff Smith had, smiling proudly. The '09 CVO Fat Bob rolls a few so-called Fang cast wheels. The wheels are black powder and chrome Harley says it's a patented process. No secrets were revealed, regardless of the amount of alcohol can flow. These "teeth" that decorate the circumference of the wheel bolts on a separate piece. It is a clear start and looks the business of the inspection, but I realized that some of the big front disc brakes too much of this special conference darkened. An additional advantage of the standard Fat Bob owners is that the new Fang wheels will be available in the loud parts and accessories catalog.
Other small details are a "granite" and chrome chin spoiler, rear axle covers do a great job of hiding the axle nut and a new piece of chrome handlebar riser that serves to hide the ugly wiring.
The CVO Fat Bob is the only bike except the CVO Softail Springer, which comes with the heavy breather intake forward. Peer claimed the 110-inch Screamin Eagle "rubber mounted 114 lb.-ft. at 3,500 rpm.
Not too touristy a model, it is a comfortable cruising. My body, 5 feet 8 inches would have preferred mid-controls that are available in standard Bob, unfortunately, has shown CVO version. The 130 mm front and 180 mm rear tires provide a good handle and do well in isolating road imperfections, but the ride suffers somewhat poorer road surfaces, thanks to lowered suspension.
If your eyes on sporty driving, the Fat Bob is the bike to consider when considering a Harley. And if you have some extra sparkle, shine and valuables in your life needs, the CVO Fat Bob is the one.
The 2009 CVO Fat Bob is available in Denim Granite with Electric Blue Fade, Black Diamond with Fire Quartz and Pearl Dawn yellow quartz with platinum.
2009 CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide
Limited production of 4,200 units, $ 35,499 ($ 35,699 in CA)
Like the Softail, the Ultra is one of the returning favorites. It has the longest continuous streak of a CVO bike. People like their cars Harley.
Ultra Line (standard models included) get some remarkable changes in '09. One of the lower parts, the frame is a two piece design (similar to a main frame and subframe on other bikes), which is 100% robotic welded and bolted together. It features a new engine mount and attaches to a wider, longer swingarm that five tenths of an inch added to the wheelbase. When taken as a whole, the chassis (frame, wheels, swingarm, etc.) claimed that 30% stiffer than the previous FL chassis.
"... The state ... has the longest continuous streak of a CVO bike.
The suspension was reworked for a good walk better, the wheels are dual compound Dunlop tires and rear wheel is covered by a broader defense. Radio and CB antennas are shorter and 2-1-2 exhaust is derived in the context of the elimination of the left head pipe in the process.
Of particular interest to people on the road there are two important changes. The saddle is what Harley calls "suspended". Imagine if your profile seat cut, so you can see the inside. Now imagine the foam just below the top surface that is supported by a flexible plastic "hammock". Under the above material is a big difference between him and the underside of the chair. This support material and the open space under the seat and back allows for easy loading. This effect of the suspension only applies to the seat of the pilot, but the seats, both driver and passenger heated and shark skin are presented in print.
Updates from other major tours are stronger saddlebags and Tour-Pak (trunkbag), each has a larger payload of five pounds. Be careful, do not confuse with the volume of cargo bag is not changed
CVO touring. The best of the touring Harley.
CVO touring. The best of the touring Harley.
Additional enhancements include a new style 2-inch backlit robust indicators on the board, roulette wheels and the package fit Rumble Collection, which windshield trim, mirrors, pedals, saddle bags, heated hand grips covers.
Disconnect the Ultra is an alleged 113 pounds-feet at 3,750 rpm.
With a strong running alleged weighing about 901 pounds, the Ultra is not the bike for the inexperienced pilot, especially since much of that weight takes quite high. I am not an experienced instructor of MSF, but I have more miles into the last 15 years than many do in a live horse and I still think that an ultra-snelheid maneuvering in the parking lot another challenge.
Once under the control of the ride are best in the business. The suspension provides a very forgiving ride without feeling numbness in the way. And ErgoS, Vay oi the ErgoS are the best! The rider triangle is very relaxed and spacious at the same time, however, does not prohibit good driving techniques. Handling is responsive to a large beast, and I could not help but notice that the extra strength of the chassis for this year may have reduced the hinge part of the feeling is often experienced in the previous FLS when it comes to foot tip bicycles through the U-turns or parking congested areas.
Because the Ultra is a touring machine that the throttle cable and the ABS introduced in last year's bike tour takes CVO. Throttle response is very good, but the feel of the accelerator spring is lighter than I prefer. Brembo brake calipers with ABS control is excellent with a very good feeling and high energy (as in the Road Glide, which later cover). Braking is so good that I kept thinking what a dream it would be if the system finds its way through most of the Harley line.
At stake in the latest Harley is a pleasure with all the amenities offered (XM satellite, Harmon Kardon audio system, cruise control, heated this, heated, etc), but the windshield is brutal attacks of 80 mph and above all. During the summer months the lower wind protection protects your lower legs prevents the flow of air and the pilot then radiates heat roasting the engine and / or extraction. Complaining and equipment at low speed in fifth gear is still there without earplugs or using an open face helmet and half the noise can sometimes be important.
If you're a fan of long distance love the style, the '09 CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide is your mothership.
The 2009 CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide is available in Ruby Red and Typhoon Maroon with Forge-tone graphics, Autumn Haze and High Octane Orange with Forge Tone Graphics and Stardust Silver and Twilight Blue with Forge-tone graphics.
2009 CVO Road Glide
Limited production of 3,000 units, $ 30,999 ($ 31,195 in CA)
This is not the first dance of the CVO Road Glide, but in CVO trim in 2000. According to CVO Manager, Phil Zagrodnick the "Road Glide is one of the customers ask us back."
The Glide is a touring bike with the emphasis on the bike. It has two saddlebags, only a small passenger backrest in place of a tribe. Although the tables, and very accommodating ergonomics, the main tub is moderate and essentially lacking a windshield (sorry, do not mind that much as a glorified bowl cut windsheild). It is also equipped with a structure of the Ultra, and a new Dunlop Muti-Tread rear tires 180 mm.
Updates to the CVO Glide are thin and long turn signal / brake / taillight LED strips integrated into the rear of the saddlebags. Said saddlebags have a capacity of 27% more payload and "extensions" to make a very personal, combining perfectly with the new dual exhaust system that allows a little more than half an inch more legroom for passengers. A low front and rear fenders accentuate the personal sphere, and they contain 18-inch wheels found only in the version of the CVO Road Glide, walks in the standard 17-inch wheels. Suspension, as the Fat Bob, got a little tweaked and improved for a good walk.
Other lifestyle changes include a flat on the dual headlights, the driver on the side of the dome is the color matches the rest of the body and found the same collections Rumble on the Ultra Classic is a house in the Road Glide.
Maximum torque demanded of the IS 110 is 115 lb.-ft. at 4,000 rpm.
The Road Glide would ride my bike if given a choice. Although large cockpit gives the feeling of many plastic surface on the front, it does a better job than the windshield to deflect the wind Ultra. Once again the idea that we have a big sign to reach the size of the dome disappears in the mind. The chair is very comfortable, just like to relax the pull-back bars and floors to achieve.
If a feature of the Glide, the ride quality. Harley engineers provided this bike with a very forgiving ride without sacrificing handling. The adjustable rear air suspension is super smooth, but the chassis does not flex causing a wallowing feel when cornering.
Since this is a model of tourism is treated with the same powerful Brembo calipers and ABS and is effective in the Ultra. And, of course, a CVO, the Road Glide has all the XM sound quality, internal wiring services steering and cruise control are standard type.
The 2009 CVO Road Glide comes in Electric Orange and Vivid Black Pearl, Yellow and slate coal and Stardust Silver and Titanium Dust (band focusing on all schemes has ghost flame feathers).
As I did not expect a man across the room that night at Whiskey Richards, not expecting to hear that CVO owners are so dedicated, hardcore runners can be seen. After spending a day on board the last batch of factory-customized Harley-Davidson, my mind easily accepts that it is not entirely fair to a CVO bike.
